Comb Through Invites On Facebook For A Refresher On People’s Names

It’s always a little embarrassing when you show up to a friend’s party or event and can’t remember someone’s name. Former Lifehacker writer Adam Dachis suggests digging through those party invites a little more thoroughly to remind yourself of people’s names and faces.

If you’re terrible with names, it sucks to run into someone for the third or fourth time and have no clue what their name is. If you’ve got mutual friends, it’s super easy to get a refresher pre-party. Dachis explains:

If the party was organised via a Facebook invite, you can just check the attendee list and look at everyone’s picture. That way you can put faces to names in advance so you don’t seem so forgetful. Even if that isn’t an option, however, you can just check the Facebook pages of friends you know are attending. Just sort their friends lists so it only shows local people and take a quick glance. If you took the thorough approach you’d be combing lists all day long, so don’t do that. Just have a quick refresher and keep an eye out for people you commonly forget.

It’s an obvious trick, but one that many of us neglect to use. Besides coming off as having a good memory, people will also think you’re better at paying attention and less self-involved than you really are.
