Just because you’re an early riser doesn’t mean a squeaky door should wake up the rest of your family. Eliminate this annoying sound by performing simple maintenance on your door hinges.
You’ll need a hammer and nailset (or thick nail), a screwdriver, a cleaning rag and silicone lubricant to do this job. Basically, you’ll need to find the squeaky hinge, clean it, and then apply some of the lubricant before putting it back in. If you can’t tell which hinge is the problem, then you’ll need to clean and lubricate all two or three of your hinges.
For safety, it’s best to remove just one hinge pin at a time starting from the bottom. Check out the link below for the full instructions.

I just spray some WD40 into the seams between the hinge segments, open and close rapidly a few times until it stops squeaking and then clean up the excess.
Yeah, I do the same – works great. WD40 ftw
If they are really dirty I just put on so much WD40 that the dirt and grime drips down off the hinges onto a rag, the only reason to take out the rod is to remove the door IMO 🙂
WD40 is great as a short-term solution but it is kerosene based and will not last particularly long.
Use silicon spray instead of WD40, much better. You will need to use a bit of it per hinge, a couple of times to really get it squeak free. But once you get it squeak free you won’t have to do it again for a long time as the silicon spray tends to clean out the hinge as well as lubricate it.
Silicon doesn’t last very long at all.
