Drops Teaches You Foreign Language Vocabulary In Just 5 Minutes A Day

iOS: When you’re trying to learn a new language (or any other skill), it’s often better to study in small, frequent chunks. Drops limits your learning time to just five minutes of vocabulary-building gameplay a day.

Seriously, once your five minutes are up, Drops starts a countdown timer for 24 hours later when you can play again.

The games are fun, having you swipe letters to form the foreign words (Spanish, French, German, Italian and English) in order, choose the correct illustration for the word, answer true or false questions, and occasionally race against another player.

The developers at Plan B Labs hand-picked the vocabulary list to include the 460 most practical words — covering about 60 per cent of everyday conversations. The app also supposedly adjusts to your performance for the right amount of challenge.

It’s a pretty entertaining — and educational — way to spend five minutes.
