‘Send The Elevator Back Down’

‘Send The Elevator Back Down’

Success doesn’t come easy, but no one manages to make their dreams work without others opening and holding the door for them from time to time. As you reach for your goals and benefit from the opportunities others give you, don’t forget to pass the good sentiment along and help those coming up behind you.

In an interview with Levo League, award-winning actor and producer Kevin Spacey explains that his success — without discounting the sweat, tears and long hours he put into getting where he is today — was also due to a number of people believing in him when he wasn’t sure about himself, opening doors for him when he needed a helping hand, and supporting him through challenges. Spacey explained that if that sounds familiar, it’s only right that you return the favour:

If you’ve done well, it’s your obligation to spend a good portion of your time sending the elevator back down.

His story isn’t unlike most of ours — almost all of us have had someone in our lives who gave us a chance or cut us a break, believed in our skills at the right time, or trusted us when they could have looked the other way. It’s only right for us to extend a helping hand back to the people who need it the most, especially when we’re in a position to do so.
