Just like fabric softener sheets create a barrier for dust, their liquid counterpart will do the trick too. Use a DIY fabric softener solution and just spray.

Reader’s Digest suggests:
Clean glass tables, shower doors, and other hard surfaces, and repel dust with liquid fabric softener. Mix 1 part softener into 4 parts water and store in a squirt bottle, such as an empty dishwashing liquid bottle. Apply a little solution to a clean cloth, wipe the surface, and then polish with a dry cloth.
This seems like a more convenient way to spray fabric surfaces too — although you want to be careful not to ruin anything, of course. For more dusting solutions, check out their full post.

How does spraying anything with anything make the dust not fall on it?
From Wikipedia (of course):
“Items that are particularly sensitive to static discharge may be treated with the application of an antistatic agent, which adds a conducting surface layer that ensures any excess charge is evenly distributed. Fabric softeners and dryer sheets used in washing machines and clothes dryers are an example of an antistatic agent used to prevent and remove static cling.[3]”
Dust particles are also charged and are attracted to charged surfaces (of opposite charge).
It could also make your home smell like apples, lavender or ocean mist.
Would this also be a good treatment for car dashboards (which get soooo much dust on them)
