Have a kettle BBQ but no easy way to lift the plate? If you don’t have a grill lifter, you can build a much simpler (and cheaper) grill-lifting solution with a couple of nuts and bolts.
All you need for this is two U-Bolts with cross plates, a few washers, and four nuts. Screw them on as shown above, and you have an easy-to-use pair of handles that you can easily grab, even with a pair of oven mitts on.

Er… Use your tongs!
If it’s too hot to pick up with your hands the handles won’t help, and if it’s cool enough then you just grab the bloody grill.
My BBQ already has little handles like that, just use a cloth to grab them if I need to.
