Modify Facebook’s Ad Preferences To Control Which Ads You See

Facebook ads aren’t the worst we’ve seen, but they’re still annoying, and many of them are poorly targeted. Modify your ad preferences to stop Facebook’s tracking or to make the ad selection better.

If you’re going to see ads, you might as well be able to modify the preferences and control how targeted you are. Here’s how:

  1. On your smartphone or tablet, click on the tiny down-arrow in the top right corner of any ad in your feed, and select “Why am I seeing this?”. On the desktop, the tiny arrow is a tiny “x” instead.
  2. Click “Manage Your Ad Preferences”.
  3. On the next page you will see category options for the ads you’re presented with. You can add preferences, or you can click or tap a category and deselect the ads you don’t want to see.

It only takes a few clicks and make Facebook’s ads more relevant, or clear them to altogether. You’ll notice that as you browse your Facebook ads will continue to update even though you’ve set preferences, so you’ll want to check your preferences again from time to time.
