Save Sawdust To Use As A Desiccant

Spills are inevitable in any workshop or garage. For quick cleanup use leftover sawdust as a poor man’s desiccant.

Liquids have only one place in a workshop: in their container and not on the floor or work table. I used to keep a standard bag of desiccant around the garage for oil spills, but it’s much more eco-friendly to use discarded sawdust.

After cleaning up your next woodworking project, sweep the sawdust into a container and keep it stored with the top on in a dry location. When a spillage occurs, simply sprinkle enough sawdust to cause the liquid to clump then sweep it up and dump it.

If sawdust isn’t an option, kitty litter will also do in a pinch.
