Ask LH: Why Does My Spotify Premium Still Feature Ads?

Hey Lifehacker, I’m a Spotify Premium user, so why do I get advertisement notifications on my phone, even when I’m not using the app? Is Spotify Premium even allowed to do this given I pay for the premium “no ads” service? Thanks, Out Out Damned Spotify

Dear OODS,

It sounds like you’re mistaking one type of ad for another. Spotify Premium’s “no ads” incentive actually refers to audio ads in your music stream, whereas you’re talking about Spotify promotions sent via email. Fortunately, there’s a solution to this too.

To disable notifications emails, log into your account and scroll down to “Email notifications”. From here, you can adjust how often you receive notifications for a range of options including playlist updates, friend activity, song recommendations and new album releases. If you want to eradicate the lot, simply click “Never” for every option. Sorted!

Cheers
