Fast Company outlines four pretty straightforward things that are worth including in your mission statement:
- Fantasize about your perfect day or week
- List your passions
- Identify your talents
- Consider core values
Of course, you’ll still need to actually figure out a way to act on that mission, but at least this provides a solid starting point.

I love articles on topics like this and Evans did it well. I think you get to see whether you’re on the path you should be on when you ask yourself some key questions. There’s a great TED talk on it from Adam Leipzig (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vVsXO9brK7M).
It’s pretty simple stuff but it really breaks things down well:
1. Who you are
2. What you do (write, cook, code, etc.. what would you like to Teach other people)
3. Who you do it for (children, yourself, others, etc..)
4. What those people want and need
5. How they change as a result.
Might be another one that could help people looking at this kind of stuff.
