Instalink Makes It Easy To Share Text And Clipboard Contents With Others

Chrome: Sharing text, code and other snippets with others can be tricky, particularly if you want to preserve formatting and context. Instalink is a Chrome extension that reduces this to a couple of clicks.

Grab a copy of this browser extension from the link below, and you can start generating links for text you want to share. It works kind of like an online clipboard, and you can use Instalink in a couple of ways. The first option is to select text and press Ctrl and C to copy it to the clipboard. Click the Instalink button in Chrome’s toolbar and you’ll see a popup window containing the copied text.

Use the drop down menu to the left to indicate the type of text involved as this will help ensure formatting is correct. Click the Get The Link button, and Instalink will create a link to your copied text which can be shared with other people. The link is automatically copied to the clipboard, ready to paste into an email or chat window. Recipients just need to click the link to access the formatted text.

The second option is to highlight text, right click and select the Instalink option. This cuts out a step as the sharing link is automatically created and copied to the clipboard ready for you to paste. The extension maintains a history of the text you copy so you can easily reuse it — this can be accessed via the toolbar button, and the history is stored for a month.
