Not Using Cloud? You’re In The Minority

Cloud isn’t yet the dominant model for enterprise computing, but it’s clearly heading that way. A survey of Australian enterprises with more than 20 employees suggests that more than half are now using public cloud services for at least part of their infrastructure.

That “in part” qualification is important; 30 per cent of those businesses are expected to be using a hybrid cloud approach by 2018.

The survey also suggests that arguments over whether on-shore hosting for cloud is essential aren’t reducing uptake, with two-thirds of those using cloud happily engaging with an offshore provider. “The multinationals have made inroads into the local cloud market and local providers will need to compete on features and service levels and not simply the fact that data is hosted in Australia,” Telsyte analyst Rodney Gedda said.
