You don’t have to live large or have a huge garage to get your DIY on, but apartment dwellers and people in small spaces can often find it challenging to find room for tools or a flat space to work. This space-saving workbench handles both, and it’s easy to build yourself.
Instructables user Blair0 walks us through this cedar modular workbench that folds up neatly into a table when you’re finished with it. It has two slide-out storage compartments that nestle right underneath it when they’re not in use. His rules for the workbench were that it needed to save space (since he lives in an apartment), and it needed to look nice and not like a traditional workbench (since it will be clearly visible in the apartment).
Inside each of the storage units are shelves, jar lids screwed into the wood to make it easy to hold small objects, and some hangers for tools and cables. He even included a magnetic tool hanger for good measure. He finished off his work area with a hanging chalkboard over the workbench. All told, you’ll have a dedicated working space for all of your DIY projects that doesn’t look like an eyesore in the corner of your apartment.
