This Handy Tool Keeps Your Laptop’s Fan Under Control

Unfortunately, Speed Fan doesn’t always accommodate the specialised hardware you often find in a notebook — that’s where Notebook Fan Control, or NBFC for short, can save the day.

The UX32VD and UX31A are notorious for their temperamental fans (well fan in the case of the latter), and trying to control them via the usually utilities just doesn’t work. I personally own a 32VD and while the fan isn’t too bad, I did find it frustrating that the usual batch of fan control programs didn’t want anything to do with my machine.

A user by the name of “Grantig” on the Computer Base forums took the time to create a program that can handle more modern notebooks, including the aforementioned ASUS models.

That said, the range of systems it does support is generous, but not extensive — here’s the full list:
