Microsoft Forefront Is Getting A New Name

Last December, Microsoft said that the next version of its Forefront enterprise security products would be released in early 2015. There’s now a more detailed roadmap for how that will happen, and a name change is in the offing.

The product formerly known as Forefront Identity Manager will now have the simpler name of Microsoft Identity Manager. This is certainly a more coherent strategy than when Prince kept changing his name.

The main emphasis in the new release will be on management scenarios for hybrid cloud, so we’re guessing a lot of work on Azure Active Directory integration. The full roadmap is being presented at the North American Tech Ed conference next month; we’ll be covering that event again this year, so we’ll look forward to more information then.
