Focus Lock Blocks Distracting Android Apps So You Can Work

Android: If you need to get things done but your phone is chirping and tempting you with your friends’ Instagram photos or new tweets and Facebook posts, Focus Lock is a new app that will block them all so you don’t have to use your limited willpower resisting them.

Focus Lock borrows a little from the Pomodoro productivity system, because when you lock an app, it’s locked for 25 minutes at a time, and then unlocked for a five minute break. You can customise those times and breaks manually if you prefer. Select your working times, select the apps you want to lock, and then lock them. As soon as you do, opening the app will give you a big “App Locked” screen.

The nice thing about Focus Lock is that you can block specific apps without having to turn off all of your notifications, put your phone in flight mode, or just turn it off. Sure, you could do those things, but if you do need to answer it if someone calls, or you do want some notifications, Focus Lock lets your phone keep working — it just won’t let you open anything you know will distract you from your work. We’ve talked about apps that keep you from distracting web sites before, and Focus Lock is a nice addition to the bunch if your phone is really the thing that’s keeping you from being productive. It’s a free download at Google Play.
