Phytonutrients, or plant nutrients, are thought to help decrease the risk of cancer and heart disease. Unfortunately, most people don’t get enough. This graphic from Precision Nutrition shows us how to incorporate more of these nutrients into our diets.
Essentially, we should be eating the rainbow — at least a cup a day of each colour.
Helpfully, the infographic offers lots of suggestions for getting more of each colour. Some of them might surprise you. For greens, for example, you could drink green tea; for reds, eat more walnuts; and for yellow/orange, add tumeric to sauces or dressings. It also provides interesting tips like waiting 10 minutes before cooking chopped garlic to preserve the phytonutrients.
