Facebook Is Buying WhatsApp, But Nothing Is Changing For Users (For Now)

Facebook has just announced that it plans to buy out popular messaging app WhatsApp. But while the developers are enjoying a $US19 billion windfall, nothing is about to change for existing WhatsApp users.

WhatsApp makes it clear in its blog post that the main service it offers won’t change:

WhatsApp will remain autonomous and operate independently. You can continue to enjoy the service for a nominal fee. You can continue to use WhatsApp no matter where in the world you are, or what smartphone you’re using. And you can still count on absolutely no ads interrupting your communication.

If the change makes you nervous, there are plenty of other alternative text messaging apps.
