Mattresses can become stale over time and are notoriously hard to clean. You can freshen up your mattress in no time with a little help from one of our favourite cleaning supplies — bicarb soda.
Even if you wash your sheets regularly, your mattress may not be getting the attention it needs. The good folks over at Make it Do have a solution for you, though. Use a sifter or fine mesh strainer to sprinkle about a cup of bicarb soda directly onto your mattress. Let it sit for about an hour to soak up the odours, then vacuum it up. If you like, you can even add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to the bicarb soda.

Is there anything bicarb soda can’t do?
Very little. It is even very handy for stubborn depleted uranium dust – should you be a nuclear bomb technician. 170g in 7.5L of water and your overalls will soon be radioactive free.
It should go without saying – for the world’s nuclear scientists – that the waste water after cleaning your clothes is probably not suitable for tipping down the sink or toilet.
That’s where you are wrong, Bi Carb can also be used to clean the waste water!
I’m currently experimenting with a method of cleaning up bicarb spills using a bicarb and vinegar mixture.
Next up, working out how to clean THAT up.
