Test If Your iPad Mini With Retina Display Has Ghosting Problems

Since the iPad Mini with Retina Display went on sale last week, some users have reported problems with ‘ghosting’, where impressions of images remain visible on the tablet screen. Developer Marco Arment offers a simple test to determine if your new device has the problem.

The issue appears to mainly affect black and white images, and Marco’s test displays a black and white grid. View it and display it for at least ten minutes, then click the ‘Switch to gray’ link. If you can still see the black and white squares, your device has the ghosting problem.

It’s not clear how widespread the issue is, but it certainly doesn’t seem to be a problem with every retina-enabled iPad Mini. If yours does have an issue, returning it to Apple for an exchange shouldn’t be a problem.
