Make An Awesome Wooden Lap Desk

Make An Awesome Wooden Lap Desk

Lap desks are great ways to make your hot, solid laptop feel a bit more comfortable during prolonged use. The good ones can cost $30 or more, and few look as cool as this one you can make yourself.

Kat and Cam, bloggers at Our Nerd Home, decided to make a lap desk that suited their needs, and it turned out to be cheaper as well. They even made it Zelda-themed by creating a Tri-Force pattern on the fabric. Want to construct something similar? Here’s what you’ll need to make it happen:

Piece of Wood

Wood Stain

Polyurethane

Craft / hobby board (you know, the extra thin wood sheets. They have them at every Michael’s/Joann)

Foam (1″-2″. The kind you would buy for a chair cushion)

Solid Fabric (we went with black linen)

Cardstock (or any thick paper you can use for a stencil. Cereal box?)

Fabric Paint

Stippling Sponge brush

Hot Glue Gun

Staple Gun

Once you have the wood cut, assembling everything isn’t too difficult. Essentially you just need to cover your foam block with your fabric, staple it on, and then glue the foam to the wood board. When you’re done, you have a great custom and comfortable lap desk for a bargain price. For the complete instructions, check out the full post over at Our Nerd Home.
