Google Helpouts Connects You With Experts Via Video Chat

Google Helpouts is a new service that connects you to experts, live over video chat, to get help with issues ranging from home repair, makeup and style, learning a new language or general lifestyle advice. You can browse and select someone to talk to based on qualifications, category and price.

Google is starting small with Helpouts and plans to expand the program to individuals who want to join. Right now, they’re partnering with companies like Weight Watchers, Sephora, Rosetta Stone and Redbeacon to hit the types of issues we just mentioned. Ideally, you’d be able to fire up a Google Helpout session and get someone to help you with a makeup tutorial or give you pointers on finishing a DIY project, either on your computer or via your phone for a small fee.

Right now, many of the available Helpouts charge by the minute — for example, we saw a “Technology Troubleshooting and Advice” Helpout that already has two five-star reviews and goes for a dollar per minute. On the other side of things, there’s a Modelling Advice Helpout that charges $US25 for the whole session, so prices and topics definitely vary, and there’s a lot to explore.

Similarly, if you’re interested in helping people via Google Helpouts, Google is accepting sign-ups from people or companies who want to lend their expertise. Hit the link below to check out Helpouts, and browse available sessions for more information.
