SBS On Demand App Now Available On Android

SBS’s popular TV on-demand app is now available on Android, but there’s a slight catch: for the time being, it can only be downloaded from the Samsung Apps store which means you’ll need a Samsung device to get your hands on it.

As its name implies, SBS On Demand allows users to access SBS programs and video clips on their mobile device at a time of their choosing. There are thousands of catalogued videos to choose from and users can add their favourites to a personal playlist. The service is free and unlimited.

Originally launching on iOS back in August, the app is now available for Android users — but only if they have a Samsung device.

“This launch follows extensive device testing, in the first phase of a roll-out across Android devices,” SBS chief digital officer Marshall Heald explained in a statement. “SBS ON DEMAND will be progressively available on other Android handsets.”

We’re normally a bit leery of these kinds of promises, but SBS has done a bang up job of fast-tracking its app to other platforms; the service is currently available on iPhone, iPad, iPod, Xbox Live, Windows Phone and via most web browsers. It therefore seems likely that HTC, Sony, LG and other Android devices wont be too far behind.

You can currently download the Android version of the SBS On Demand app from the Samsung Apps store.
