If you’re sick of waiting for the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 to land in Australia, Dick Smith has a deal that may be of interest to you. The retailer is currently selling premium Wii U bundles for just $214, which is effectively half-price.
The premium Wii U bundle comes with the monolithic tablet-based ‘GamePad’ in addition to the regular controller. It also comes bundled with the full game NintendoLand. Dick Smith will be offering the discounted bundle to in-store shoppers only.
In our previous Wii U price roundup, the cheapest in-store price we could find for a premium bundle was $378.
Despite the Wii U’s ailing sales across the globe, we’d be very surprised if the console didn’t fly off the shelves at the above asking price. After all, just look at what happened during Harvey Norman’s $99 HP Touchpad fire-sale — and that was for a completely dead platform. In other words, we advise acting fast and calling the store ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
While the long-term future of the Wii U remains uncertain, there are already some classic games available for the system with more promising titles in the pipeline, including Wind Waker HD and Super Mario 3D World. At this price, we think it’s worth taking a gamble.

I can’t find the Wii U console on their website?
“Dick Smith will be offering the discounted bundle to in-store shoppers only.”
Yeah doesn’t look like it’s on there at all… My partner is ringing around a few stores now.
Edit: Ha ha turns out our local store has only one console left and it’s first come first served, I don’t think I’ve ever seen my boyfriend move so fast!
It’s just another ploy to get you into stores, there are no Wii U’s available, and if they are they’ve all been picked up by staff and their friends (to be resold on ebay).
Yep – will never shop there again after that happened.
edit – They also lied to my wife on the phone. And last time I went in there, I stood waiting to be acknowledged for a couple of minutes at the counter, then just left.
Oh. My. GOD! A couple of minutes? Those bastards!
Well completely ignoring customers is a pretty shitty business tactic.
This could be handy we are looking at getting one for our kids for xmas.
Hot damn! Calling DS now!
It’s not real. It’s never real. Dick Smith have pulled this shit too many times. Places should refuse to report on these “deals”
Was real enough for us 😀 I do agree though that they pull this little stunt pretty often. Luckily this time it turned out to be real.
Wooooo picked mine up!
Cool! Which Dick Smith store do you work at?
Haha, now that is funny.
None. Was incredibly lucky. I went in at lunch and they said someone else put two on hold, even though they weren’t meant to be allowed to. They said come back at three and if they hadn’t been picked up they were going to sell them.
I came back, and it was me and one other guy and they sold em off to us.
This wasn’t the deluxe though, only the basic. Still 50% off so can’t complain.
