Create A Home Alarm System With A Raspberry Pi And Webcam

We’ve shown you before that home alarm systems don’t have to be expensive. To prove that point even further over on Medium, Alex Nikolaidis shows off how to make a cheap home alarm system with a Raspberry Pi.

The system is exactly what you’d expect it to be. With a Raspberry Pi and a webcam you set up motion detection to trigger events and send the video to a server. In this case, the webcam is hidden away inside a door so it can be used to see when people come by as well. When motion is detected, a notification is sent to another computer and images are uploaded to a FTP server. Head over to Medium for the full guide to making it for yourself.
