Change The Colour Of A Hue Lightbulb With A Text Message

You may have heard of Phillips Hue Lightbulbs that connect over Wi-Fi and let you adjust them via your smartphone. If you happen to have one, you can access an open API to hack them to do more than standard operations.

The folks over at design firm Freshly Tilled Soil decided to explore the Hue API and change the colour of the light with just a text message. All it took was a little code, a Hue developer account and an IFTTT recipe.

While more fun than practical for the average person, you may find other uses for hacking your Wi-Fi-enabled lighting and want to explore the options the Hue API provides.

For full instructions, check out the post over at Freshly Tilled Soil.
