Vodafone Outs Australia’s First Category 4 LTE Tablet

Vodafone has announced the exclusive availability of the Huawei MediaPad 10 Link 4G on its network; a Category 4 LTE-capable tablet that comes equipped with a quad-core 1.5GHz processor. Capable of a theoretical maximum speed of 150Mbps, the MediaPad 10 Link 4G is being billed by Vodafone as the fastest tablet in Australia. Here’s a look at the specs…

Category 4 refers to a specific speed profile on an LTE network that allows devices to pull down a theoretical maximum speed of 150Mbps (or 50Mbps more than Category 3). Vodafone currently has Category 4 coverage enabled in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.

“[Category 4] is more than three times faster than today’s average Australian ADSL connection and fast enough to download a movie in less than one minute,” Vodafone boasted in a statement — although this also means the potential for bill shock is a lot higher.

In addition to its Category 4 credentials, the Huawei MediaPad 10 Link 4G comes with a 10.1 inch IPS LCD display (1280×800 pixels), a 3-megapixel rear camera, 8GB of storage, a microSD card, Dolby Digital Plus sound, a 6400mAh battery and the aforementioned quad-core 1.5Ghz processor running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Specifications table:

The tablet will be available on three different 24-month plans — $35 per month (with a 2.5GB monthly data allowance), $45 per month (4GB data) and $60 per month (8GB data).

The Huawei MediaPad 10 Link 4G will be available from Vodafone on August 14.
