‘Remember To Always Be Yourself. Unless You Suck.’

“Be yourself” is great advice for learning to be comfortable and confident in your own skin. It’s also horrible advice that can lead to character flaws being interpreted as “personality quirks”. This quote from Joss Whedon highlights that issue.

Sometimes people need to change. If we didn’t, sites like ours would be out of a job. Accepting your idiosyncrasies is a great way to boost your confidence, but sometimes “that’s just how I am” is really “I have a problem and don’t want to deal with it” in disguise.

We’ve talked before about how sometimes, if you suck at something, you should quit. Unfortunately, you can’t quit being a person, but you can alter your mindsets and behaviours if you’re willing to admit you need to change first.
