Foxtel has announced it will close its 3D channel at the end of August. Meanwhile, ABC has made its iview catch-up-service available on the IPTV service Fetch TV. (What the TV industry gives with one hand it takes away with the other.)

In a blow to fans of 3D in the living room, Foxtel has announced it is going to shut down its channel dedicated to 3D content, according to a report from TVTonight. The 3D channel is set to close on 27th August — the same month Foxtel’s Play IPTV service is expected to launch in Australia. We’ve contacted Foxtel for comment and are currently waiting on an official response.

In other TV news, ABC announced today that it has rolled out its ABC iview internet channel to Fetch TV.

“From today, ABC TV’s popular internet TV channel, ABC iview, is available as a free inclusion for customers of the Fetch TV IPTV service,” ABC said in a statement. “[The service] has been fully integrated into the Fetch TV main menu, providing users with ready access to the entire suite of iview content on their TV…Fetch TV is another way the ABC is providing TV on the viewer’s terms, at a time and place of their choice.”

The ABC will also be commissioning exclusive local content for iview.

“iview has proven to be a phenomenally popular service. We are delighted to offer Fetch TV subscribers the iview experience, on the big screen, in the comfort of their living rooms, ” Fetch TV’s CEO Scott Lorson added.
