Melbourne’s award-winning hot chips restaurant Lord Of The Fries is finally heading to Sydney, with the first store set to open on George street in the coming months. Our bellies are gladdened by this news. Our collective waistbands? Not so much.
Lord Of The Fries is a vegetarian fast food chain that specialises in freshly prepared french fries that come with a variety of sauces including satay sauce, Belgian mayonnaise and shredded cheese with hot gravy. It also serves onion rings, battered chili peppers and vegetarian burgers with patties that “have the look, taste, texture of beef or chicken with virtually no fat.”
While it might sound like a healthy alternative to the likes of McDonald’s, Lord Of The Fries’ signature menu item remains a bit dodgy. Deep fried potato slathered in high-sugar sauces isn’t exactly a path to weight-loss: the use of sunflower and cottonseed oil is largely immaterial.
Currently, the Lord Of The Fries website contains no nutritional information for its menu items, although this will presumably need to change before the NSW store opens to meet the state’s fast food laws.
The new George street store is set to open its doors in September and will be located near World Square. You can check out the menu and set your mouth to watering here. Stay tuned for the inevitable Takeaway Truth post, coming soon.

I thought their chips weren’t deep fried?
They use sunflower and cottonseed oil. Pretty sure they’re still deep fried though.
Still deep fried and extremely soggy.
Best enjoyed inebriated.
ugh, sounds horrible 🙁
I’m a vegetarian, but I’m steering the hell away from this place. vegetarian != good…
Lord of the fries is terrible, truly awful.
Agreed. I’ve eaten there twice, and both times it was revolting. As in the worst chips I’ve ever eaten revolting.
They’re actually pretty amazing. Haven’t found many people in Melbourne who don’t enjoy them.
How does 8 tomorrow work for you?
Sounds good!
BZZZT. Incorrect. I think you’ll find that most people in Melbourne DON’T enjoy them.
I said I personally haven’t found many people. Didn’t say I was speak on behalf of everyone.
I love chips…but I’m yet to eat a serve of these without feeling rather unwell by the end. Not sure why.
But do they do crinkle cut though?
Is it just me, or do the chips (hate calling them fries) in that picture look stale?
Oh.. and please can someone fix the “Waiting for moderation” issue, there are quite a few of us that have complained about this in the last week or so…
They would get a 10/10 if the menu came with that picture
They look like they were left in the fridge overnight and then had crappy sauce drizzled over them to me…..!
Takeaway truth!
Every time I’ve eaten there, their food (particularly the chips) have tasted stale.
From looks alone looks of it id rather stuff some frozen McCains in the oven than eat those.
I was halfway through my “Soy Chicken Nuggets” (which I took to mean soy flavoured – as in honey-soy) wondering why they tasted so horrible before I realised that the store was vegetarian. Considering how many times you see the word “chicken” everywhere, they really should make it clearer.
The chips were ok, but definitely nothing special. I may have just been extremely hungry after discovering that my nuggets were frauds though.
I love Lord of the Fries. I can’t wait until it opens here! I’m not a huge fan of their soy chicken, but everything else is amazing. As a vegan, it’s pretty difficult to find fast food that I can eat.

As per the comments in this thread, I’ve heard very polarised views of this store. There seems to be little to no middle ground, most people either love it or hate it, so I’m looking forward to seeing which camp I’ll be in.
Best enjoyed once in a blue moon, They are really good sometimes, And other times not. But that’s all food food companies for you.
If you want $80 handcut chips that arent soggy, Go to some upmarket boutique hipster cafe/restaruant. If you want decent food at a decent price, Go to Lord of the Fries.
Massively overrated. #markettingwin
I remember the last time i went the chips were soggy and I ended up throwing out half of it.
But maybe i might try it again perhaps at a different location (the previous time was at the Cnr of Flinders and Elizabeth st. @nway – which store do you go to if you’re swearing by them?)
right nest to my work …excellent …the place is fast becoming my favorite lunch place … gomez now lord of the fries … awesome !!
their fries are ok.
The soy bean burgers are nice. And i love meat in and around my mouth
Oh, come on! The World Square Guzman y Gomez only opened a few weeks ago. I’m going to have heart disease before Christmas if this keeps up.
So excited!!! I love Lord of the Fries. Hot chips covered in gravy – doesn’t get better than that.
