Live Connected Trialling ‘Slider’ Scheme To Avoid Bill Shock

Optus-network-using MVNO Live Connected already offers some of the cheaper contract plans on the market. Now the company is testing a new option: letting customers who exceed their monthly call and data allowance temporarily ‘slide’ onto the next plan up rather than being hit with higher bills.

The trial is being run with Sydney customers until the end of April, and will continue afterwards depending on consumer feedback. Under the scheme, customers who are approaching their limit will be sent a text notifying them they are near their limit (something that will eventually be a legal requirement for all large providers from September 1 this year). If the limit is exceeded, the customer will be moved onto the higher tariff for that month only. So a customer on the $50 plan would be moved to the $60 plan, but only for that month.

The trial only applies to customers on Live Connected’s handset-only plans; it isn’t applicable to its BYO plans. Nonetheless it’s an interesting move. Would you like this approach, or would you prefer to buy additional data or voice blocks if you need them? Tell us in the comments.
