In-ear headphones get dirty fast, so you want to clean them regularly. As Apartment Therapy notes, the sanitising wipes that you can pick up at restaurants and supermarkets can get the job done nicely:

Once a week I try to remember to wipe down the buds as well as the cord. Make sure you don’t get too much liquid in the buds to prevent damage. Also, if you have a silicon top on the bud, remove those and clean them separately.
