Plex/Web Offers Faster Streaming, Boosts Transcoding In Windows 8

Plex, one of our favourite desktop media servers, just took the wraps off its streaming Plex/Web service that aims to make your media accessible across all devices. It’s also slowly rolling out its next-generation transcoding engine, starting with the Plex app for Windows 8.

The Plex/Web updates are largely on the surface: existing users will notice a completely redesigned home screen and UI that is easier to navigate and improves search functions. You can also easily select items from your media library at home to sync with Plex/Web, respond to friend requests on the Dashboard, and set default streaming and video quality settings for individual channels. You can read all of the Plex/Web updates in this forum post.

The team behind Plex is also working on a next-generation transcoding engine. It plans to slowly roll the new engine out to users, starting with the previously mentionedPlex app for Windows 8. If you have the app, you can give the new engine a try by updating it now. For more information on today’s updates, hit the link below.
