When we announced Lifehacker’s revamp yesterday, I mentioned that one of the aspects that we were very excited about for our new IT Pro channel was our World Of Servers project. But what does that actually involve? Here’s the scoop.

Over the next six months, I’ll be travelling to server and data centre events around Australia and across the globe to gather real-world insights into how server technology is being used and deployed in businesses, and how our expectations of those technologies are changing in the cloud era. Those are areas that we have covered before, but it’s the first time we’ve made a formal commitment to attending a series of events and covering them in this amount of depth. I can’t wait to get started, and I won’t have to wait long: the first event I’ll be covering is Linux.conf.au in Canberra next week, with particular emphasis on the Cloud Infrastucture and Systems Administration mini-conferences. Look out for our first chunk of World Of Servers coverage throughout next week — and let us know if there are particular issues you’d like to see covered.
Even more excitingly, I’m not the only one who gets to travel. The project will culminate in a trip to TechEd North America in New Orleans in June, and two Lifehacker readers will get to come along for the event as well. We’ll be sharing details on how you can compete to win this impressive prize (and awesome education opportunity) soon.
