Dealhacker: Movie Sales At JB Hi-Fi, Big W And Target

Looks like a good week to update and expand your movie collection. There are Blu-ray and DVD specials happening at JB Hi-Fi, Big W and Target.

Here's the low-down, in progressive order of savings:

While JB Hi-Fi has the lowest percentage off in this round-up, it has a much bigger range of titles than the other two.

You're kidding??? I bought the Avengers on Blu-ray at target YESTERDAY!!!

It was $28 which is still a good price though. But $21 would've been better.

    DAMN IT!

intriguing that anyone who follows lifehacker regularly would actually still be buying movies on physical media.

Blu-rays are awesome. Sure you can get a digital version of the film, but if you want the best quality possible at the moment, then they're the way to go.

I have a lot of flicks on hard drive, but if it's something I really want to enjoy, like bladerunner, then it's gotta be blu-ray.

Cant get HD audio on from digital distribution. I tend to wait for a special and then buy blurays on the cheap and rip them myself with the audio intact.

I can also choose the picture quality/file size as well so in my opinion, its still the best choice available.

Like rowan, I follow Lifehacker and still buy DVDs and Blu Rays (in my case for, among other things, the extras they usually have and the easily accessible subtitles).

I agree that JB HiFi has the widest range. Its website can also be searched to see which stores have particular items in stock (if none near you does you can generally order online for 99c an item postage).

Target and Big W may sometimes have the cheaper prices, so if you can spare the time to check them out (don't expect too much help instore or online) you may still grab a bargain, especially of a popular new release.

The biggest problem with JB is that they charge top dollar for their stuff. It takes a long time for things to reduce to a good price mostlys. Avengers was still $40 last time I checked. That's too much.
