Set Up A Siphoning Water Reservoir When Leaving Your Christmas Tree For A Few Days

If you’re going to be away from home for more than a night before you plan on taking down your live Christmas tree Reddit user mgnichol advises setting up a simple water reservoir using a siphon to keep the tree watered in your absence.

The siphon will draw water from the larger reservoir to the tree using gravity to keep the two water levels at the same height. This is referred to in science as Bernoulli’s principle As long as you choose a reservoir container of the right size you should be able to get at least a few days of automatic watering; the plastic tote in the photo above should work fine.
