Android tablets can run any Android software, but they really shine with tablet-specific apps and programs that can take advantage of the bigger screen. All week, we’re rounding up our favourite Android tablet apps. Today: apps that draw on your creative side, whether that’s music or pictures.


Caustic 2


Music creation software for tablets has been dominated by Apple-only options (think GarageBand, Figure, iKaossilator and FL Studio Mobile. However, massively improved latency in Jelly Bean means that music apps are now much more feasible on Android devices. Right now, Caustic 2 is the clear favourite in the virtual studio department, with an impressive range of tools.

Audiotool Sketch


This is great fun if you’re a Roland TB-303/909/808 fan. It costs $3.99, and lets you emulate up to three sequencers at once. [clear]


Skitch


From the Evernote team, Skitch lets you annotate any kind of image as well as knock up your own quick sketches. It’s ideal for any kind of brainstorming or planning project, and the extra tablet real estate lets you give full reign to your imagination. [clear]


Adobe Photoshop Touch


At $10.49, this isn’t the cheapest Android app out there, but if you’re serious about image editing, it’s well worth the money. The app offers a wide range of effects to apply to images, and syncs with Adobe’s Creative Cloud so you can also open them in the desktop later.[clear]


Pixlr-o-matic


If you don’t need the full-blown arsenal of Photoshop Touch, Pixlr-o-matic (from Autodesk) is a great free alternative. You can implement a wide range of effects onto photos, and then choose a border to match. The randomizer feature is also dangerously addictive.
