Windows Azure Online Backup Keeps Your Server Data Safe, Free 300GB Preview Available

Windows Server: Offsite server backup can be a pain, but it’s essential to protecting critical data. Windows Server 2012 adds new backup options using Microsoft’s Azure cloud services, and for six months you can trial Windows Azure Online Backup for free with 300GB of data.

The Windows Azure Online Backup service integrates with Windows Server 2012, running as a background agent in Windows Server 2012 and System Center 2012 SP1. The interface is the same as the existing server backup options, but adds the ability to replicate into the Azure cloud. All data is encrypted before being uploaded, and you can customise the process with PowerShell scripts. On Windows Server 2012 Essentials (the version aimed at small businesses), an integration module is available which links into the main Essentials dashboard.

You can sign up for a free trial account which runs for six months at the link below. (There’s also a six-month trial available for Windows Server 2012 itself.) Microsoft hasn’t yet released final post-trial pricing.
