From The Tips Box: CD Cases, Chrome Bookmarks, And Dirty Glasses

Lifehacker readers offer their best tips for opening CD cases, editing Chrome bookmarks, and cleaning your dirty spectacles.

Every day we receive boatloads of great reader tips. From the Tips Box is where we round up some of our favourites. Got a tip of your own to share? Add it in the comments or send it using the contact tab on the right.

A Better Way to Remove Annoying CD Stickers

Jonathan shows us how to painlessly open a new CD:

I may be in the minority, but I still love physical CDs. The only problem is that they have that horrible sticker along the top that’s really hard to remove. I recently learned this trick: instead of trying to peel it off normally, unclip the bottom part of the case’s spine, then slowly peel away the front case from the back case. It’s a little hard to explain, but you can see a video of the process here.

Warning: there’s a bit of NSFW language in the video. This method doesn’t make the stickers any less of a hassle, really, but it does a good job of getting them all off in one piece, and without too much sticky residue.

Long-Press to Edit Chrome Bookmarks on iOS

MsCassLopez uncovers a hidden shortcut in Chrome for iOS:

Usually long pressing stuff on an iPhone does nothing, or at least nothing very interesting. However, if you long press on a bookmark in Chrome, you can rename it. Cool!

This is a pretty typical shortcut on Android, but not on iOS. Google’s other apps have some long press functionality in them too.

Clean Your Glasses with Dental Floss

Alfred Loo finds a way to clean those hard-to-reach places on his glasses:

The area behind the nose pads of spectacles or glasses can hard to clean. Tissue paper or cotton buds don’t do the job well, and neither does spraying it with water. Soaking it in soap water potentially degrades the anti-glare coating.

Did you know that you can use dental floss or even ordinary sewing thread as a cleaning aid? Just use a double section (folded for more cleaning power) of your choice of floss/thread and floss away. Most of the gunk will just come off with the floss/thread.

Hang Your Headphones with an Old Hard Drive Magnet

Rothgar lets us know of another way to hang your headphones:

Magnets do it with magic! I hang my Sony BT earbuds with my magnetic name badge, and I use hard drive magnets for my Monoprice cans.
