Curl Your Bacon Before Baking

You may know that baking bacon is a great way to cook it up quickly and evenly, but for a little fun and flavour, the next time you bake it, why not season your bacon and twist it into spirals before baking? It should hold its shape while cooking and when it comes out you’ll have curly bacon straws — much more interesting than simple strips.

Over at The Wicked Noodle, in between professing her love for bacon and this tip, the author suggests spicing up your bacon with brown sugar and chipotle powder to give it a spicy-sweet kick. If you curl the bacon this way, that flavour will really stay with the end result, since it’ll be on the inside while the bacon is cooking.

She also notes that thicker cuts may be a problem here, so you might want to use an oven-safe skewer to twist the bacon around if you’re using particularly thick strips. Even if you don’t candy or spice up the bacon, it’s a neat trick — not that we really need tricks to enjoy bacon.
