A bottle of luxury exfoliating scrub can be surprisingly expensive. There’s no sense in spending an arm and a leg when you can make the same product at home for a fraction of the price. Here’s how.
How cheap your salt scrub is will depend on how fancy you want to get. Here’s what you’ll need for a basic scrub:
- Coarsely ground kosher salt.
- Olive oil (or any other kind of oil you can spare — we suggest olive because it’s surprisingly good for your skin and smells good).
- Optional: a fragrance, like lavender, citrus or any other essential oil.
Mix the kosher salt with enough oil to make it into a rough and gritty paste. Start slow — you can always add oil, but you can’t take it back out. You’ll know you have the right consistency when you can rub it between your fingers without sprinkling it back into the bowl. Then add a drop or two of essential oil. A little goes a long way, so use it sparingly. Mix it all up and store it in an airtight container.
Want an even cheaper option? Try baking soda. Thanks Mary for sharing the tip!
