DIY ‘Personal Energy Orb’ Gets You Exercising By Slowing Down Your Mouse


This fun Arduino project keeps track of how much you’ve exercised with your own Personal Energy Orb. If you haven’t spent enough time exercising, it motivates you to get moving by reducing your computer’s mouse speed to its slowest setting.

The PEO hooks up to your bicycle and turns from red to green when you’ve spent enough time on it. Hook it up to your computer and it will let you on without a problem. But over time the device will turn red again and make your mouse pointer annoyingly slow, thereby motivating you to get back out and exercise to recharge the orb.

It’s a cleverly annoying way to keep you active, and it could be a good solution if you’re difficult to pull away from the computer screen.
