Ladies, drink up! It turns out that the widely-circulated idea that eating cranberries and drinking cranberry juice can prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) such as cystitis really does have some scientific backing.

A study published in the Archives Of Internal Medicine today summarised the results of 13 previous research trials examining the effect of cranberry juice on UTIs. The conclusion?
Cranberry-containing products tend to be more effective in women with recurrent UTIs, female populations, children, cranberry juice drinkers, and people using cranberry-containing products more than twice daily.
In other words: regular consumption of cranberries makes them more effective if you do suffer from a UTI. Note: the addition of vodka will not have any evident health benefits.
