Trim Ice Cream Tubs As You Eat To Put An End To Freezer Burn

Anyone who’s ever enjoyed a few scoops of ice cream from a large container only to come back to it in a few days to find ice crystals all over the top of the ice cream knows the scourge of freezer burn. There are several ways to fight it, but here’s one way to save space in your freezer and protect your ice cream: trim away the container as you scoop out the ice cream so there’s nowhere for the air to go.

America’s Test Kitchen suggests that as you scoop out ice cream, grab a pair of scissors and cut off the top of the ice cream container so that the top is level with the amount of ice cream left. Then pop the lid back on, put the now-smaller ice cream container back in the freezer and walk away. The result is less wasted space and no freezer-burnt ice cream.

It’s a great space-saving technique, but will it replace the tried and true “put a sheet of plastic wrap against the ice cream” trick most of us already use? Check out a larger image at the link below, and let us know what you think in the comments.
