Track Down Obscure Songs In YouTube Videos

Ever found yourself jamming out to the music in a YouTube video only to find the video doesn’t properly attribute the song? If it’s a popular track it’s usually easy to find, but for more obscure music it takes some real research. Technology blog Digital Inspiration suggests a few tips for your hunt, including a clever way to dig through the comments.

A lot of videos will have a statistics page underneath the video player detailing the track info, but if the video doesn’t have that information, the search gets a lot more difficult. One simple trick you can perform right on the YouTube page is to search through the comments, but you’ll need to know what to look for:

Here’s the trick. While you are on a YouTube page, click the “All Comments” link and set the sort order “by thread” — now press Ctrl+F to open the browser’s Find box and search for keywords like “song,” “music” or even “tune.”

If that method doesn’t work, Digital Inspiration has a few more suggestions to track down those obscure songs from YouTube videos.
