Improve Your Memory By Combining Information With Gestures, Images And Speaking Aloud

We all want to improve our memory a little and while you won’t find a shortage of complicated tricks to drastically improve your memory sometimes we forget about the easier methods. Illustrator Yumi Sakugawa offers up a few suggestions to improve your memory, including the two easiest methods: combine information with a gesture (or bizarre image) and speak it out loud.

One of the easiest ways to remember something is to say it out loud or write it down so it cements the fact in your mind. If that doesn’t work, you can pair a piece of information with a gesture or a bizarre image. When you make that gesture again you’re more likely to recall the information and the bizarre image is simply more likely to stick in your head.

Other tips include coming up with a memorable acronym, chunking information into smaller bits, and one of our favourites, the memory palace. If you’re looking for a few more ways to boost your memory, check out our guide to training like a USA Memory Champion.
