Purge Twitter Trends Banishes Celebrity Trends From Your Feed

Chrome: Twitter is a great source for news, articles and keeping up with friends, but it’s also sometimes a magnet for people obsessed with some annoying celebrity that you have no desire to read about. Purge Twitter Trends is a Chrome extension that strips specific celebrity trending topics from your feed so you can read in peace without being forced to unfollow them.

Once installed, Purge Twitter Trends completely removes trending topics around celebrities like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, the Jonas Brothers and more. If you find you’re interested in a topic that the extension blocks, just head into the options to unblock it. And if there are other trending topics or keywords your Twitter feed could live without, just type them into the keyword filter.

Purge Twitter Trends is the work of Lifehacker reader Myth of Echelon. The extension is great if you read Twitter via the website, but if you use a third-party Twitter client, check the options to see if you can filter based on phrases — TweetDeck, for example, allows you to do this as well.

There’s something to be said for visiting Twitter via the web and seeing only what you want to see. Have your own way of blocking annoying trending topics or otherwise tweaking your Twitter feed so you only get the good stuff? Share your tips in the comments below.
