Diagnose Your Bad Breath By Scraping The Back Of Your Tongue With A Spoon

Not sure if you’ve got bad breath? All you need is a spoon, a minute, and your sense of smell to find out. By scraping the back of your tongue with the tip of the spoon, letting the spoon dry, and then smelling it, you’ll know if you stink or not.

To give credit where credit is due, I found this tip on a (kind of annoying) Orabrush commercial I accidentally watched. Sceptical, I did a quick search and found that the tip has been recommended from a variety of sources. Just to make sure, I tried it out myself (see embarrassing photo evidence up top), letting my morning breath sit for a while. This trick does, indeed, work, and I am going to go brush the hell out of my mouth in a minute.

But first, if the spoon test reveals your breath stinks then you need to start brushing your tongue — and further back, too. It seems a lot of the smell you release when you breathe on your victims is the result of tongue buildup. So, you know, remember to brush it off. Mouthwash, gum and other minty smells will only help a little and mask the problem.
