Weather apps aren’t exactly the most interesting category of utilities, but every now and again an app comes along that’s really worth downloading. 1Weather is one of them. It combines good looks, sharp animations, an intuitive UI and all the features you would expect in a weather app, all for free.
1Weather isn’t big on boxes and menus. You can tap the icons at the bottom of the screen to switch between the current conditions and the forecast, or just swipe right to left to move between screens. The app picks up your location automatically, and shows you the seven-day forecast, radar map, local weather alerts, even nearby weather-related tweets and photos from your area.
You can add multiple locations if you travel often, and display the current temperature in the status bar (and the full forecast if you pull down the notifications panel), switch units to whatever you’re comfortable with, and toggle notifications for severe weather alerts. There’s even a gorgeous 2×2 widget you can add to your home screen.
The app is completely free, but ad-supported. $US1.99 gets you the “Pro” version, which removes ads. Both versions are available now at Google Play and support Android phones running 2.1 or higher.
