It’s nice to have a place to wash sand or dust from your feet when relaxing outdoors whether you live near a beach, have a sand playground for the kids, or just enjoy walking barefoot. You can build a stone footbath with four 7.62cm-high boards and a few river stones.
The July 2001 issue of Martha Stewart Living shares this decorative and useful project. Pick a grassy spot near your patio or porch that has access to your exterior water tap, nail together the frame, add a weatherproofing finish, and fill the frame with river stones. Now you have an attractive area to rinse your feet before entering your house.
One caveat — reptiles and amphibians are attracted to sunny rocks in the heat of the day. If you have many of these animals in your area you may want to investigate alternatives to stones (perhaps a mat from wine corks?) or give the stones a spray from the hose to avoid any nasty surprises.
